Grocers sell edible and non-edible items, from food, fresh or canned or frozen to other household supplies. The term grocer comes from the French "grossier" meaning wholesaler. Grocers deal in a wide-range of staple food-stuffs including such perishables as meats, produce and dairy products. Such goods are called groceries. Sometimes, convenience stores and supermarkets are described as grocery businesses, or simply grocers.
