Food colorings and flavorings are materials used to add taste and color to food. Food colorings and flavoring help enhance flavor and texture of certain foods, making them more palatable and pleasing to the eye. Food coloring is extensively used to tint sweets and candies and frostings. Primary food colorings are blue, red, green and yellow. Food coloring can be in liquid, powder, gel or paste form.
