Electrical switchgear is arrangements of electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuit breakers. Electrical switch gear controls, protects and isolate electrical equipment. Electrical switchgear is used both to de-energize equipment to allow work to be done and to clear faults downstream. Electrical switchgear interrupts short-circuiting and overloading of fault currents, ensuring protection against fire and other hazards. Electrical switchgear also provides isolation of circuits from power supplies. Electrical switchgear is also used to increase system availability by allowing more than one source to feed a load.
