Casting is a manufacturing process wherein a liquid material is poured into a shaped-mold, and then allowed to solidify. The solidified part is also known as a casting. Casting materials are usually metals or various cold setting materials such as epoxy, concrete, plaster and clay. Casting is most often used to make complex shapes considered otherwise difficult or uneconomical to make by other methods. Metal casting is one of the most common casting processes. Casting is used in various industries and covers glass casting, slip casting, die casting and sand casting. Castings are used for sculptures in bronze, for precious metal jewelry and weapons and tools. Traditional casting techniques include lost-wax casting, plaster mold casting and sand casting.
