Quick fixes for summer skincare struggles

Feeling burned in the summer heat? We have rounded up few tips to help you keep your cool.

Have you yearned to stay indoors, set your AC at a cool comfortable temperature and not step out into the scorching sun during the extreme summer months in the UAE? The unforgiving summer days means having to deal with frizzy hair, dark spots, dry and tanned skin, chapped lips, dehydration, migraine…well, the list is endless. While chilling indoors in the comforts of your home seems like a very lucrative prospective, your personal and professional commitments rarely grant you the liberty to indulge. We summarise few quick skincare fixes that are sure to keep you up and flying even during the summers.

Even though there is nothing like a few relaxing hours at the spa/salon to help you de-stress and feel pampered, there are many easy and inexpensive DIY skincare quick fixes which would demand little more than raiding your fridge.

Pamper yourself in the comforts of your home

Basic skincare routine that includes hydrating and moisturising your skin regularly and generously applying high SPF sunscreen lotion every time you step out of your house can hugely relieve you during the hot months. Here are few other simple home remedies:

Facial scrub: Sweat, dirt and excess oil builds up on our face during summer leading to acnes and dull complexion. Your dry, dehydrated skin begs for immediate exfoliation during hot summer days. Refrigerate a mix of one tablespoon of coconut oil, one tablespoon of sugar, half a tablespoon of water, and two drops of lemon juice for an hour, massage it over your skin before rinsing it off with cool water. This will exfoliate your skin and leave it cool and refreshed.

Face mask: For a cool, soothing and nourished skin, simply mash one banana and mix a drop of honey and two teaspoons of chilled yogurt ,apply it over your face and neck and let it dry completely before rinsing off. To de-puff your eyes and reduce the dark circles and burning sensation in the eyes, simply cut two slices of a cucumber, place them over your eyes and just sit back and relax.

Summer hair pack: The banana-honey-yoghurt pack works great as a hair mask too, just puree the mixture so as not to leave any lumps on your hair. Whisk two tablespoons of olive oil, a tablespoon of white vinegar and an egg to make a moisturising and replenishing hair pack loaded with vitamin E and healthy fats to treat your brittle hair. Let it sit on your hair for 20 to 30 minutes and rinse it off thoroughly.

Foot spa: For a basic foot spa, set up a bowl of warm water with bubble bath and oil, soak your feet for ten minutes, pat dry your feet and gently exfoliate with an oats and kosher salt scrub pack. Finally rub in your favourite moisturizing foot lotion.

Happy Summer!
